Picnic areas have a charcoal grill. The closest island group near you is the Glen Island group, it and encompasses all islands in the Narrows. All camp/picnic sites must be reserved in advance via their website. Remember to visit the Ranger Station on Glen Island before 5 pm to pick up your docking permit!

Calf's Pen has been a tradition for generations, with rock outcroppings varying from 10-foot jumps for the squeamish, to a 60+ foot plummet that requires you to jump over a tree top before landing safely in the 100-feet deep water below.

This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.


Pinnacle Hiking Trail

Get to know this 2.1-mile out-and-back trail near Bolton Landing, New York. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 7 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and mountain biking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Shelving Rock Falls Trail

Get to know this 5.4-mile out-and-back trail near Huletts Landing, New York. After returning back to the parking lot, continue along the road to find the trailhead for the Shelving Rock Summit. Overall, it is a very gentle climb to the top. Make sure that you continue further from the summit to see the gorgeous lake view. An even better view awaits you if you go down toward the right and reach the western ledge (descend about 150' below the summit by walking about 100 yards). This is the best viewing spot.

Have fun in the sun at Veterans Memorial Park, a public park in the heart of Bolton Landing. Swim in the shallow swimming area or lounge on the sandy beach. Play basketball, hang on the docks, and enjoy picnic tables & grills, a playground, and a pavilion. The beach is open daily throughout the summer with lifeguards present. A kayak or canoe can be launched from the metal docks on the north side of the park.

Rogers Memorial Park is another public park in Bolton Landing. Enjoy tennis courts, basketball, docks, picnic tables & grills, a playground, and a pavilion. The pier, public docks, and restrooms are recently renovated. The beach is large, with clean sand and plenty of room to spread out a towel. The swimming area is wide and shallow, making it perfect for kids. The water gets deeper farther from the beach. Lifeguards are on duty from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m.
